Eric Newell (Chair)
Chancellor Emeritus

Mr. Newell is a retired Alberta business executive with a stellar history of corporate leadership and achievement, as well as an exemplary record of service to industry and community. His career has taken him to Imperial Oil Limited and Esso Petroleum Canada, but he is perhaps best known for his tenure at Syncrude Canada Ltd where he served for 14 years as CEO (1989-2003) and for 9 years as Chairman (1994-2003). He also served as President from 1989 to 1997. Under his leadership, Syncrude, which is the world's largest producer of crude oil from oil sand, became a key player in the western Canadian economy, an increasingly significant source of energy supply for the entire nation, and a model of a reliably operated, environmentally efficient corporation. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000 and was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2004. He currently serves on a number of boards, including: Board Chair, CAREERS - The Next Generation Foundation; Board Chair, Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation; Director, Nexen Inc.; Director, Gairdner Foundation; Director, TELUS World of Science Edmonton; Director, TELUS Community Investment Board; and Vice-Chair, Lieutenant Governor Arts Award Foundation.

Kathleen Sendall (Vice Chair)
Former Senior Vice President, North American Natural Gas

Ms. Sendall was the Senior Vice President, North American Natural Gas, Petro Canada from 2002 to 2009. She was responsible for oil and gas production and exploration in North America (Western Canada, Northern Canada, Alaska and US Rockies). Accountabilities also included natural gas marketing, corporate reserves reporting, and investor relations support. She completed a successful US acquisition in 2004. She also served in other roles with Petro Canada since 1982. She was named as one of Canada's Top 100 most Powerful Women (2002-2006) and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007. She is a Fellow and former President of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. She also received an honorary Bachelor of Applied Industrial Ecology from Mount Royal College in 2002 and the Canadian Engineering Leader Award (Schulich School of Engineering) in 2005. She serves on a number of boards including the Board of Governors of the University of Calgary, the Public Policy Forum, the Calgary Opera and the Canadian Centre for Energy Information.

Doug Beever
Senior Director, Corporate and Government Relations

Mr. Beever joined Agrium in 1987 and has held roles of increasing responsibility, including Manager of Marketing Services and his current role as Senior Director of Corporate Relations. He is responsible for Agrium's Government Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility and Communications. Prior to joining Agrium, he worked for Monsanto Canada Inc. He is involved with a number of industry associations including the Canadian Fertilizer Institute, the Fertilizer Institute, the International Fertilizer Institute and the International Plant Nutrient Institute. He is a member of several boards, including the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation and the Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada.

Paul Clark

Mr. Clark is the President of VisionGain Consulting. From 1999 to 2006, he served as Vice President, Research and Technology for Nova Chemicals Corporation. He has received several awards including the NSERC Synergy Award (2003), Alberta Science and Technology (ASTech) Awards (2002 and 2003), APEGGA Award for Technology Commercialization (2004) and the Purvis Memorial Award (Society for Chemical Industry - 2008). He serves on a number of boards including the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation and the National Research Council of Canada.

Aaron Falkenberg

Mr. Falkenberg is the Chairman of Mercantile Trust. He is a businessman who has been involved in poultry farming for over 20 years, and real estate development in Canada and the United States. He serves on a number of boards including the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation.

Charlie Fischer

Mr. Fischer was the President and CEO of Nexen Inc. from 2001 to 2008. Prior to that, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the company, responsible for Nexen's conventional oil and gas business in Western Canada, the US Gulf Coast, and all international locations as well as oil sands, marketing and information systems activities worldwide. He serves on various boards such as Enbridge Inc. and also serves as the Co-Chair of Climate Change Central.

Paul Galachiuk

Mr. Galachiuk is currently President of Bow Engineering Ltd in Calgary, Alberta. He has been in the refining and oil sands industry for over 27 years. With Suncor Energy Inc., he was Vice President, Growth Planning and Development, from 2004 to 2009. This role provided direction for the key growth initiatives and sustaining projects with respect to the Suncor Energy Oil Sands facility in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Areas of responsibility included Planning and Economics, and scope development. He served in other roles with Suncor since 1982. He serves on a number of boards including the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation.

Dr. David Lewin

Dr. Lewin is the Senior Vice President, IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) Development of Capital Power Corporation and is responsible for completing the final phase of Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) or 252 MW IGCC Development at Genesee, Alberta, by 2010. Prior to this role, he served as Senior Vice President Environment with EPCOR Utilities Inc. He serves on a number of boards including Chair of the Canadian Clean Power Coalition and Vice Chair of the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation.

Dr. David Lynch, P.Eng.

Dr. Lynch has been the Dean of Engineering at the University of Alberta since 1994. He has received many awards including the 2001 APEGGA Centennial Leadership Award and the 2004 ASTech Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Alberta Science and Technology Community. He serves on a number of boards including Micralyne Inc., Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation, and Climate Change Central.

Dr. Robert Mansell

Dr. Mansell is Academic Director of the School of Public Policy, the Founding Director and Senior Fellow of ISEEE (Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy) and a Professor of Economics at the University of Calgary. He has authored over 100 studies on energy and regulatory issues, as well as many other studies on regional economics. His teaching includes courses on public utility regulation, industrial development and regional economics. He serves on a number of boards including the Alberta Chamber of Resources and the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation.

Patricia Kim Sturgess, P.Eng. FCAE

Ms. Sturgess is the CEO and founder of Alberta WaterSMART, a not-for-profit water management services organization. As the CEO of several technology based companies over her career, she has extensive experience in technology start-ups and technology management, as well as in oil and gas, pipelines, and industrial products and services. In addition to serving on the boards of her own companies, she serves on the boards of CCI Thermal Technologies in Edmonton, Pressure Pipeline Inspection Company in Toronto, the Calgary Airport Authority, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Formerly she served as a director of the Alberta Water Council, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the National Research Council, the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, the Alberta Economic Development Authority, Queen's University, and the Calgary Science Centre. She has been recognized with the YWCA Women of Distinction award, the Global Woman of Vision award, the Distinguished Service Award and the Alumni Achievement Award from Queen's University, and the Alberta Centennial Medal. In 2007, she was named as one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women.
