Alberta Innovates - Energy and Environment Solutions brings a focus to energy and environment research, and bridges the gap between turning ideas into solutions for the energy sector (see figure 2 below). Through our strategic funding programs, Alberta Innovates - Energy and Environment Solutions invests with industry and other organizations in research and technology development in six program areas: bitumen upgrading, clean carbon/coal, improved recovery, renewable and alternate energy, CO2 and emissions, and water use. Organizations developing Alberta's resources are eligible to apply to Alberta Innovates - Energy and Environment Solutions for funding for the development of novel research and technology solutions that will help sustain and grow Alberta's economy while improving environmental protection and social responsibility. Before applying for funding from Alberta Innovates - Energy and Environment Solutions, applicants are encouraged to read the 2009-14 AERI Strategic Business Plan.
